Ever since the spark of AI tools like ChatGPT or AI image generators, people on the internet have been finding all types of ways to use AI to their advantage. Whether that's using AI image generators to inspire art work, or using websites like ChatGPT to answer all kinds of questions. In the end, we can all agree that AI is not the enemy, and instead is there as a helping hand. Just like AI can assist students in their studies, it can also help individuals in the web design community. Today I'm going to go over a few cool ways AI is actually pretty beneficial for web designers, and hopefully I can provide a new understanding towards the world's latest obsession!
1. Automated Design Tools AI-driven design tools can produce font ideas, colour schemes, and layouts based on the designer's input . These assets can serve as inspiration and a way of quickening the design process. 2. Responsive Design Optimization With the help of AI programs, websites may be better optimized for responsiveness and user experience by analyzing user behaviour across a range of devices and screen sizes. 3. Personalization AI can customize a website's user experience by analyzing user habits, preferences, and characteristics. This might be displaying personalized products, making suggestions for items, or altering layout elements according to the unique traits of each user. 4. Testing & Feedback By mimicking human behaviours and providing feedback on usability, accessibility, and performance, AI-powered tools could replace user testing. Designers can more successfully experiment on their designs and find areas for improvement with help of AI. In conclusion, AI enables web designers to produce better and faster work. AI tools are more sophisticated and automated than previous techniques, so designers can develop appealing, modern websites in smarter ways. In order for designers to remain relevant and produce websites in the modern digital age, they must embrace the power of AI!

What is the role of a web designer in making an online business successful?
A web designer is essential to the success of an online business because they build websites that are visually pleasing, very straightforward, and extremely informative. They make certain that visitors are engaged, the website fits the business identity, and the user experience is consistent across all platforms. Why should a web designer be familiar with creating an online business? Since web designers can create websites that efficiently support business goals, target audiences, and industry trends, they should be knowledgeable with starting an online business. A web designer may make designs that compliment the company's identity, messaging, and marketing plans in addition to being visually appealing by having thorough understanding of the business context. The entire plan makes sure that the website draws in visitors and turns them into customers, which boosts the online business's overall success. What does web design have to do with marketing, research, and online stores? Research helps designers with developing websites that are simple and easy to navigate. Additionally, web design promotes easy purchasing for online sellers. What are websites used for?
Websites have been around for a looooonggg time and have assisted people while browsing on the world wide web. Although websites are all very unique and different in their own special ways, they all share similar aspects that surround them. The first would be that websites help discoverability. There have been countless times where companies gain most of their customers through their websites, further introducing possible customers to their brand and determining whether they become a regular or not. There's actually a study done by Nielson that says about 90% of individuals find local business through websites. The second important aspect of websites is that they serve as a place for you to control your digital place. The control you have over your website is endless as you are able to determine the most appropriate ways to sell your brand. Finally, the third crucial aspect of websites is the fact that you're able to collect important data based off the ways your customers interact with your space. Using data makes it much simpler to identify what is effective for your company. Essential data like visits, average stay on site, bounce rate, and conversions may all be examined. What is social media good for? On the other hand, we have social media. Social media is just as important as websites on the internet as it also has a fair share of benefits. The first major aspect of social media is that it allows you to connect with your audience. There may be certain customers that want to connect with your brand besides interacting with your website, and a good way to do that is by creating social media accounts! On these social media platforms, you're able to share extra information about your brand---whether that be special sales on products or possibly new products---social media can tackle all of that. The second factor of social media is that is allows for your brand to reach newer, possible customers. A lot of people gravitate towards apps like Instagram or TikTok for information, instead of the usual Google or Safari. Having a presence online can help sell your brand, promote what you're selling, and reach audiences you may have never reached before. Instead of putting the use of websites and social media against each other, the smarter idea is to just use both of them! They both are similar in ways, but also have many differences that can benefit you and your brand. Having an online presence is crucial as the world is literally obsessed with social media, but never forget to take the more traditional route and turn to websites which can be a good base for your brand. No matter who you are, you're going to being using the internet. Whether you're using it for school, work, or your own personal reasons, it doesn't matter, the internet is absolutely everywhere! Now, while using the world wide web, we all come across many different websites that all work differently. Sometimes these websites are overwhelming and confusing, while others are organized and take into consideration how their users may feel while using their website. And just like every website is different, every person is different, and that includes the way we intake information and navigate through things. Some people may be able to handle a very cluttered website, while others simply cannot. In order to avoid the users of your websites feeling lost, confused, and overwhelmed, there are a multitude of things you need to take into consideration.
1. Simplifying the language. I can't even begin to explain how frustrating it is when I'm on a website and they use all these complex words that I simply can't understand. I get that sometimes its needed to use big words to get your point across, but then there are also those times when it's NOT necessary and it just overcomplicates things. However, the language that you use isn't the only thing that's important to take into consideration. You also need to be careful with how close or f a r you space your words, how small or large your words are, or the kind of font you use. Using a fancy cursive font may look nice at first, but when your writing huge paragraphs in that font, things just get really cluttered and confusing. I don't know about you, but I hate it when the words on the screen just begin to merge together and become unreadable. It's the worst feeling, but one that is easily avoided if the designers of the website just take some extra time to ensure all people can read what they are displaying (whether through font use, size of font, or word choice). 2. Help your users fix their mistakes!!! The mistakes users accidentally make can create a huge fog of confusion, especially when the website doesn't exactly tell you where you messed up. Mistakes are unavoidable, that much is obvious, but you're able to help users feel less bad about their mistakes with simply telling them where they went wrong. Here are three ways you can help users when it comes to their mistakes:
3. Don't create unnecessary pressure for the user. Nobody enjoys feeling under pressure, but since interfaces have gotten much more dynamic over the years, websites have been getting more and more complicated, making their users more prone to stress. In order to avoid overstimulating your users, take into consideration the things that may be considered distracting such as: pop-ups, notifications, and flashy animations. Users should be able to control the frequency of chat messages, alerts, reminders, newsfeeds, and the like so that they have more time to read and grasp what's being communicated. Having a bunch of pop-ups, notifications, animations, and alerts on your screen can make the user feel overwhelmed, causing them to feel pressured to do something to make it stop and distracting them from their main objective. Of all my years of browsing on the internet, using all types of different websites from YouTube, Pinterest, and everything in between, there has only been one website that has a special place in my heart. Even though those apps listed from before are pretty solid, I have to admit that my personal favorite website of all time is COOL MATH GAMES!
The wonderful website of Cool Math Games has been with me through thick and thin. From those really epic days of playing Poptropica in the school's library on their old computers, or whenever I was bored at home and craved the excitement one gets from jumping from geometric shape to geometric shape in Run 2. Although Cool Math Games has been with me all throughout my childhood, now that I'm older and taking a web design course, I'm able to realize the website for its real worth. Although Cool Math Games is a website for children of all ages to play some pretty cool games on (hence the name), it's also a beautifully designed website that is crafted with excellence expertise. The creators behind Cool Math Games knew what they were doing while designing this website, especially when it comes to their color choices for their logo. Their logo contains some pretty fun colors, such as: green, yellow, red, and of course, blue. If we apply color psychology to this, we can determine that the green in their logo represents a sense of peacefulness which players can experience while playing their favorite games. The yellow in their logo represents warmth, something that many users of the website feel when they come back after a long time to play their favorite childhood games. The red in their logo stands for excitement, which I don't know about you, but I definitely feel that while browsing through the plethora of games they have to provide. And finally, the blue in their logo represents trust, something that is built over-time as many of us have grown up with this website, creating a sense of familiarity while using it. This is just me scratching the surface of the iconic website Cool Math Games. I haven't even begun to discuss how they perfectly organized all of the games that they provide, or how over the years they were able to maintain that memorable interface that all people can recognize no matter if you were born in 1997 when the website was created, or much much later. If I were to get into all of that, I'd probably never stop talking, and nobody would want that. Plus, it's fun to experience the wonders of Cool Math Games for yourself. Therefore, I believe that Cool Math Games is the best website on the world wide web and will definitely go down in history forever. The Hamburger Menu seems to be quite a controversial topic of discussion amongst people, but today I am here to clear that discourse and tell you WHY the hamburger menu is iconic in itself.
On almost every website you find yourself on---whether you're browsing the Coachella website, Google Drive, or your favorite Fitness Apps---you're most likely going to find the hamburger menu somewhere scrambled into the top corners of the website, and for a VERY good reason. In most websites and applications, the hamburger menu, often known as the hamburger icon, is a button that when clicked, opens up a side menu or navigation drawer. It's a simple approach to let consumers know that there was a list of items on the button. Now, in my personal opinion, the hamburger menu is highly recognizable and easy to use. All you got to do is tap it with your finger, and boom, you are given a plethora of options to choose from! Thing is, even though the concept of the hamburger menu is pretty straight forward, many individuals seem to struggle with its functions. Some say it makes the page less important, that the engagement levels with it is low, and that its overall inefficient. And yes, although there are studies that prove all these cons to be true, there are also many pros to the hamburger menu. The hamburger menu is very recognizable, so when you click it, you know what you're in store for. It's also very clean and allows for clutter to be avoided (which is something many websites struggle with and effects the enjoyment of using a website, which sucks). Even though the conversations regarding the hamburger menu are quite divided, some people loving it and some hating it, I think we can all agree that the hamburger menu is already too iconic to get rid of. So, in my personal opinion, I'd like to keep the hamburger menu. Not only is it organized, universally used, and simple to use, and its name is pretty cool! Branding is the practice of giving a company a unique identity in the eyes of both your target market and the general public. A company's name and logo, visual identity design, mission, values, and tone of voice are the fundamentals of branding.
Now that you know just WHAT branding is, you may be wondering WHY it's important. You may not believe this, but branding is one of the most important assets for companies and organizations. The reason as to why branding is so crucial is because it allows your company to stick out of the crowd, hopefully in a positive way. Wouldn't you rather your coffee company stand out amongst the rest instead of just being another generic place to get coffee? Wouldn't you rather have people think of YOUR company first when they crave coffee rather than any others? If you said yes to both of these, then be sure to focus on branding for your company. Branding is all about giving your company a distinct personality, making your business memorable, motivating customers to make purchases for you, aiding in marketing and advertising, and boosting employee morale. Skipping out on the whole branding process can really affect your business and cause it to suffer. For example, look at the thriving business of Tim Hortons. They are a successful company within Canada due to their iconic emblem: the maple leaf. This, along with many other things, makes Tim Hortons stick out amongst all the other coffee brands. If they didn't take the time to focus on their branding, like that warm and welcoming feeling you get from their locations, then they probably wouldn't be as successful as they are today. They would just be another place you can get coffee from, and not one of the most popular coffee brands within Canada. Now, let's connect the idea of branding to web designers and what they do. As mentioned before, branding is what makes your website UNIQUE and MEMORABLE, kind of like a gimmick. Tim Horton's gimmick is the Canadian Identity they claim to have, which is unlike any other coffee business. Therefore, you need to take a step back and apply the knowledge of branding towards your websites and how you can make it stick out amongst all the rest. Whether you use a suitable font, a certain type of dialect, special images that catch the readers eye, and an overall likable theme. Then all these things will contribute to your website, how people view it, if they'll choose your website over any others, and if they'll continue to use your websites in the future. Overall, branding applies to multiple different people. Whether you're focused on creating an impactful product, or simply designing a website, branding is very important. The entire process of branding should not be neglected, but rather a crucial step in creating your brand and or website. The internet is a huge space. It's a place where individuals like you and I are able to express themselves in any way, shape or form. As wonderful and freeing the world wide web may seem to be, there are also many rules that we need to follow. Everyone needs to follow the rules of digital citizenship, which is when we navigate through the internet in a way that is safe and respectful.
The ability to be respectful and responsible on the internet may seem obvious but is highly important. If we were to all log onto the internet and just start spouting disrespectful nonsense, then the world would be utter chaos. Being able to use the internet respectfully benefits us in a multitude of ways. Each and every one of us need to follow digital citizenship as it helps avoid creating a bad reputation for your name. If someone were to search up your name, would they see something positive or negative? If you're following the rules of digital citizenship, then the only thing people should see online are positive things about you. Maintaining a good name for yourself is important because it will definitely affect your future and how it plays out. Now, just because posting online comes with a lot of rules to follow, it doesn't mean you should avoid it completely. Having zero presence online actually isn't a good thing. It's better to post things about yourself online to give future employers an idea of who you are as a person, rather than leaving them completely in the dark about who you are. Posting things like awareness for certain topics, pictures of your achievements, and things like portfolios can all show your future employers that you are suitable to hire as you can use the internet in a respectful and useful manner. When there's positives, there will always be negatives. Posting online can be highly beneficial, but it can also be quite risky. Even things you may have posted in the past can resurface with a simple Google search. If you're going to be posting online, ensure that you aren't posting inappropriate photos or making any inappropriate comments. Even if you may not be a bad person, the things you post online can give others an image of you that may be false. |
